Recently one of our favorite families decided to move away, and with them went 10% of our youth group! No, it wasn't a church split. These guys have 5 sons! We wanted them to know that we'd never forget them, and that we would miss them greatly, so I put together a quick scrapbook for them to remember the year they were with us.
We passed out small pieces of cardstock so the kids could write a note, a memory, a hope, or a prayer for one of the boys. Then we gathered all the photos we could, and put the album together.
They are a family of strong, leadership-level students, and I think that several of them will end up in the ministry someday. So, I typed up the directions for many of the games that we played as a group, and added them to the scrapbook as well. That way, they pass on some of our traditions to their own groups someday.
That's Ethan, above, on Yvette's back!
The scrapbook was a big success. We were able to share memories with them, and show them how much they meant to us. And on top of all of that, I used the scrapbook-making time to hang out with a girl from our group. She came over, had dinner with me, and helped me cut and glue until it was done. Youth ministry is all about multi-tasking!
