v5 Solomon believed God. I have noticed as I get older, there are fewer people (Christians) who believe Him. They believe IN Him. They know what they believe ABOUT Him. But they don't seem to actually believe Him. That He keeps His promises. That He loves us. That He answers prayer. That He wants to provide His BEST for us. (And that He'll make this happen without any conniving on our part...) Solomon believed God. He believed that what He told David was true.
v6 Solomon wants wood from Lebanon for the temple. "no one knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians."
I find it interesting that when the tabernacle was being built, God used artists and craftsmen from within the Israelite nation to bring Himself glory. Now He is using Solomon to bring talent from outside their nation to construct His permanent dwelling. Is this symbolism for the way God will open up salvation to the non-Jew through Christ? I love to see hints and patterns in the Old Testament that point to the coming Messiah.
