v1 Rest of every side from his enemies. Such a short phrase, but a huge statement.
v2 David wants to build a temple to the Lord.
v4-17 God has slightly different plans. He wants to first establish David's house and throne, and leave the temple building to David's son. He promises to make David's kingdom endure. I wonder why God delayed the building of His temple. Perhaps He wanted to show David what He could do first. The the glory would go to the Lord, and the temple could be built in response. Maybe He wanted to divide the glory between two kings, so that one did not seem too great.
v18 David responds with prayer.
v22 "For this reason you are great, O Lord God; for there is none like you, and there is no god besides you."
When compared to the one and only God, it makes sense that David would humble himself and feel insignificant. And somehow, we continually forget this and exalt ourselves in our own eyes.
v27 David, the mighty warrior, successful in every way, had to muster the courage to pray to the Holy God. Since we have Christ as our intercessor, we are free to pray to Him always, but I think we sometimes fail to remember exactly who it is we are addressing. And what it means that He is HOLY.
v1 The time of peace is over. David is conquering again.
v2 What is this all about??
v6 David is letting some of them live to be servants to his kingdom.
v7,11 David is dedicating the spoils of war to the Lord.
