Well, it's January 30th, and I'm already writing my New Year's Resolution post! This might be a record.
To give a quick review of the last year, my "word" for 2016 was LEAN IN. That meant instead of wasting my time wishing for my circumstances to be different, or fighting against the role that God clearly has placed me in, I just decided to go with it. To revel in it, even.
Emotionally, it meant accepting where I was, even if it wasn't my dream. It meant exploring the place God has me in (especially the mothering/homeschooling space which has all but knocked me sideways this year!) and finding out how I can fill that roll in a way that is uniquely me. It has been an eye-opening year to be sure!
Practically, the focus on LEANING IN was internal. A quiet reminder from the Lord daily. It meant putting down the phone, ignoring stats on instagram and facebook, and BE-ing with my family when they needed me most. Unfortunately, LEANING IN also meant that while I was having these heart-changing sessions, I had very little to share with the world. So blogging didn't make that much since for a season. I was LEANING IN. Living life instead of "sharing" about my life. It was wonderful. It was fulfilling. And now that time of "absorption" is over. I'm ready to take what I soaked up in the last year or so and put some of it into words.
This year, instead of a word or phrase, I have an ACTUAL resolution. I have a goal, and I'm really excited to see it through. My goals for this year are simple. You know I don't like to quantify my resolutions. Those are too easy to measure and too easy to fail. I prefer to make resolutions that launch me into a direction for the year--so that at the end of it, there can only be improvement. It's the only real way I've found to feel successful when December rolls around.
This year, I have resolved to WRITE MORE and SING MORE. There is no structure to this resolution. At the end of the year I might have written a few poems, or I might have a book deal. I might have taught my kids a couple new songs from my childhood or I may have a Christmas album recorded. I'm going to be thrilled with either. As long as I sing more or write more than I did last year, I win. And I did so little of both of these things, there's not much chance I'm not going to improve! (I like to set my self up for success if possible!)
So tell me about yourself. Did you make resolutions or goals this year? Do you feel the Lord stretching you to improve in some area, or step out of your comfort zone? I'd love to know what's going on in that pretty heart of yours, and I'd love to pray for your growth and success in 2017. Feel free to share in the comments or email me at Lassothemoonshop (at) gmail (dot) com! We are going to have such a big year!
Until next time, friend!
