This is part 5 of our series: 31 DAYS of Setting Up Shop! You can find the entire list of days, in order on our Setting Up Shop Index Page. I'll add each new entry to this list as it is published.

{a name}
I'm sure you've wondered why it has taken me until DAY 5 to talk about the {name} of our new venture. That's because we were so intent on having {a name} that absolutely said exactly what we wanted, from every angle, that we almost couldn't choose one at all! To give you an example of what I mean, I want to share with you some of the dialogue (textalogue?) that we shared during this part of the process. These are some of the words that we were playing around with during the name-picking process:
rally assembly gather abode dwelling nest shelter hearth lodging cottage suite room layered collected restored kaleidoscope plenty banquet feast medley jumble clutter hoard nest egg stockpile supply retreat bunk house barn ___(something) merch barter trade roots heritage legacy origin kindred prime culture refine(d) cultivate(d) nook emporium camp, camper, campy...? brick yellow, red, navy, orange patina rust, rusty, rusted frayed tin ceiling worn, worn down, worn out...yes I am. farm to market threadbare crinoline tweed sweet tea ?? hmm. i like the idea of it. Sweet tea vintage market, sweet tea emporium, sweet tea trading wire hatch (that was from my mom. obsessed with chickens.) chicken wire salvage studio workshop weekend road trip rosemary sparrows nest magpie girls weekend brain space--not this, of course, but something that means to get away from hectic family life and think happy, pretty thoughts and regain some usable "brain space." down time joy nest sweet _____ patina bunk house barn gather
I know that is one big jumble of words up there. Feel overwhelmed by options? So did we. When we finally got together to hash things out, we made a big hand-written list of our favorites, and practiced writing them out.
Remember, when you are choosing {a name} for your shop, business, or event, you can also add a "tag-line" after the name to further define your purpose. We had earlier decided to use "a vintage marketplace" as our tag-line. So just the title itself was left to be settled.
We doodled our final selection in different lettering styles on some scratch paper. At one point I was writing out g-a-t-h-e-r, when I decided to add an "ed" to the end. At the exact same moment, Caroline said, "What if we added an "ed" to the end?" Uh, what? When minds come together like that in a moment, I think it's best to go with it.
So now, you have something to write on your calendar!
Gathered, a vintage marketplace.
As in several friends and makers {gathered} together to bring you a medley of cool stuff to give and keep. What do you think?

I feel like something is really coming together here. It still feels like a little bit of an experiment, but now that we have a name (and a darling logo--thanks to Caroline!) we can also start a facebook page.
So, while you're here, why don't you take a sec and "like" our new gathered page. I'll tell you more about it this weekend, but we have a lot of crazy fun stuff in store for the followers of this page.

Tell me, what kind of thought went into the name you chose for your business? And while you're at it, feel free to link to your business in the comments today. I can't wait to visit your shop, too!
