To My Little Brother
I'm sorry that I pulled your hair, and squeezed your arm too hard.
I'm sorry I wouldn't push you-- in the swing in our backyard.
I'm sorry I got jealous when Mom gave you that hug.
I'm sorry that I bumped you, so you fell down on the rug.
I'm sorry that I screamed at you, and made you start to cry.
Sometimes I feel like being mean, though I'm not even sure why.
I'm sorry that I stole away the giant rubber ball...
And the remote control...the toy train...the book...the baby doll...
I hope that this apology conveys my utmost sorrow,
'Cause I'm sure there'll be a new list of things I'm sorry for tomorrow.
Written for Emma, who is going through a growth spurt--her language, her abilities, and her will.
***Update--that is the end of an ice cream cone in Ethan's mouth. Not a chicken wing. ***

A pretty little mess:
Made while making these:
What are they? Well, you'll soon find out, because I'm adding them to my Etsy shop on Thursday (I hope.) I have decided to ease off of the eBay thing for a while. I'm still going to make the occasional pair of overalls, but I tend to feel extreme pressure this time of year to compete with the other designers on that sight. There is a strange mood on eBay that is really starting to get to me. First, they charge way too much for listings. (Some call them "FeeBay" Ha!) Second, there is a lot of drama and back-biting that goes on behind the scenes in the designing groups. I'm just not into that. I want a business that I can work at when I have the time. Without feeling the pressure to list Christmas items in August. Yeah. Weird, huh?
Thirdly, I feel a little funny about the whole auction process. You basically have to under-price your items to attract attention, and then hope that a bunch of people want it, so the price makes it up to what it's worth in the first place. It can be frustrating.
All that to say that I am going to try and focus a little more on ready-made items. I have been putting together fabrics and patterns for a "fall line" of sorts. I'll be adding them little by little, and keeping my readers up-to-date as I do. I'm going to make things from many price ranges, too. I've had some interest in my purses, slings, etc from people who may not have kids, or if they do, they don't want to shell out 100 bucks for a pair of overalls they might refuse to wear. Hey. I get that.
Well, this has been a lengthy post. Sorry. I'll try to make it up to you with this sneak peek of something else I'm cooking up:

We have been back home from the beach for a couple days now, and we are really settling back in. Most of the laundry is done, and I've had a little time to sew and craft. Here's my work-in-progress for this week.
Can it really be time to start sewing for Halloween? These are overalls for Emma and Ethan (his first!) and I'm going to offer the customs on eBay. This starts my busy season with Lasso*the*Moon*Designs. I'll pretty much be in over my head from now until Valentine's Day.
After I finish these overalls, I'll start Emma's costume. And then I want to make a diaper bag for Ethan. I just found a great wool army blanket at the thrift shop that I'm going to use. And maybe some camouflage patches and binding? I'm still in the dreaming stage of this one.
Today is one of those Saturdays when nothing is planned, and we are all at home together. Time to go enjoy the gang. Have a great weekend!

Wake-Up Call
I'm feeling some pressure and extreme obligation
To finish this laundry without hesitation,
But never have I seen in all of creation
A pile this large, that brings this much frustration.
I wish one could offer me some explanation,
Of how a family of such small population,
After only a week of extreme relaxation,
Could produce enough laundry to cause trepidation.
Well, this poem has been enough procrastination,
So I'll tackle the hamper with determination,
And try to resist the overwhelming temptation
To envision myself on our next big vacation.

Well, we are off to the beach. We'll be back next Thursday with lots of sunny, sandy pictures to share. Until then,

Well, I am supposed to be packing for our big trip to Florida tomorrow, but I can't seem to pull myself away from other things. Like this phlox:
So vibrant. And the teepee we set up for Emma, with morning glories climbing over it:
And yes, she lined those trains up on the steps. She lines everything up. That's how she plays. Look at that proud little face. And her momma's on the other side of the camera making the same face at her.
And then, of course, I remembered that my friend Andrea's birthday is tomorrow. And we are going on vacation with her and her husband. So I got an idea of what to make for her, and it had to be good, since she made a pretty big deal out of mine this year. Looks like it's going to be a long day.
That's the lining. With a pocket for her hand-sanitizer. (She's a germ-a-phobe, and I get much pleasure from teasing about it.)

I have had my own dirt for three summers now, but this is the first year that I have been successful with tomatoes. I love to garden. I love to plan, and dig, and plant, and even weed. But I sometimes forget to water. Oops. I do very well with daylilies, and zinnias love me. But the past two summers have seen some very dried up tomato vines. Not this year! I am learning and growing, myself.
We have already eaten many of this year's bounty, but we are leaving for our summer vacation in a couple days...
So I'm making crushed tomatoes for freezing, so I don't waste a single fruit.
Aren't they gorgeous!
(We are growing "Mortgage Lifter," "Yellow Boy," and "Purple Cherokee.")
