We had a really great anniversary. We had the kids around, and just spent the day lazing around the house. Went out for a late lunch. And came back for some presents.
Since the beginning, we decided to stick to the "traditional" gifts for our anniversaries. I think there is way too much emphasis in general about giving gifts. It is so much better to receive a gift from the heart, than something they felt like they had to give you, right? Doing it this way has been really fun, too. For the first year, paper, I got Donnie tickets to the symphony (which he had never seen!), and he got me tickets to see Ira Glass from This American Life! (Such a cool experience. I had stars in my eyes, but Donnie pushed me to talk to him, and I blathered on about how I adored his show, and I was working through the archives, listening to every one...yikes.)
The next year was cotton, so I embroidered his favorite scripture (in cotton) and framed it for his new office. (We moved north the next week.) And he rented me...a cotton candy machine! Clever, huh? You don't have to know me very long to know that I love cotton candy. We even had a cotton candy machine going at our wedding reception.
The next year was leather. I got him a guitar strap; he got me a leather-bound bible that fits in my purse.
That brings us to this year. Flowers and fruit. Weird, don't you think? This one took some thinking. I gave him a certificate that entitles him to one Fruit pie or dessert each month for the next year. I called it the Fruit Pie of the Month Club. (I guess I'm really into clubs right now.)
And he bought me two hydrangea plants. In case you haven't heard, Donnie and I have a long-term love affair with It's a Wonderful Life. In fact, that's why I named my business (and this blog) Lasso the Moon. There's a scene in the movie where Mary has to hide in the Hydrangea bushes because she has been accidentally dis-robed by George. If you haven't seen this in a while, it might be time to rent it.
So that was our anniversary. I have been doing some crafts, but I'm feeling a little A.D.D. on that front. I'll post about some of them soon. Later, Anna
